I have a warm therapeutic style, extensive training in a range of therapies and over 30 years experience. This combination means that I am able to offer you therapy attuned to your individual needs, working with you to help you successfully make the changes you are looking for.

I specialise in working with people who have experienced complex, and often traumatic life experiences. Sometimes this is related to things that have happened to them, sometimes it is related to things that have not happened - where core needs have not been met.

I have helped people successfully make changes with:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety and Panic Attacks
  • Phobias
  • Anger and Aggression
  • Low Self Esteem or Low Confidence
  • Assertiveness Issues
  • Relationships and Family Issues
  • Trauma-Related Issues including Sexual, Physical and Emotional Abuse and Neglect
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Personality Disorders including Borderline Personality Disorder
  • Self Harm
  • Suicidal Thoughts And Behaviours
  • Overcoming Stigma
  • Developing Identity
  • Drug and Alcohol Issues
  • Eating Issues

I am trained in a range of therapies, suited to a wide range of difficulties. These therapies include:

  • Schema Therapy
  • EMDR
  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Successful therapy is as much about the therapeutic relationship as it is the type of therapy used. It is really important you feel comfortable, feel able to talk openly and be heard, so we can develop a trusting relationship.

I often work with people who have had therapy before and felt that it hasn't helped them make the changes they were looking for. That experience can leave people feeling worried that there is no point in trying again, or feeling apprehensive they may have a similar experience.

In order to address these issues, I usually start working with clients with a 90 minute assessment session. This gives me the opportunity to find out about you, what has brought you to therapy, and significant experiences in your past. It gives you the chance to see if you feel comfortable working with me and have your questions fully answered. During our assessment session we will work together to decide which therapy is best suited to the changes you would like to make in your life. Our work will be centred around your individual needs and experiences. We will work together to develop a shared understand your difficulties: where they came from, what is maintaining them now, and how best to help you achieve your goals. Depending on your needs, we may integrate these therapeutic approaches.

Following our assessment session, if you would like to work together, sessions are usually held weekly for 60 minutes. (Many therapists only offer 50 minute sessions.) I work flexibly according to your needs, so if your situation (emotional, practical or financial) requires something different, I will work hard to try and accommodate this.
